model range
The Aurelia name covered an extensive model range, with berlinas (sedans), a coupe, open two seater, a 6-light limousine, a large cabriolet, as well as a chassis for special coach built bodies. Underlying all the different models was a single mechanical scheme, with a unique V6 engine upfront coupled to a rear transaxle in the rear, with generally speaking, independent suspension for all four wheels.
The different models had variations in tuning, gear ratios, suspensions and transmissions as the Aurelia range evolved over its lifespan. Practically all the components, at one time or another, were varied, and understanding how this was done is not simple. In a sense, the model range varied as Lancia pursued niche markets. Sometimes as few as a few hundred examples were made, other times, several thousand. What is clear is that they all worked and were well suited to their purpose. There was no "just fit it in", rather each variant had changes in mechanics, suspension, body and interior as needed. The same high level of refinement was consistently carried throughout all versions and all types.
The sedan was the main model introduced in 1950, accompanied with the cabriolet and a B50 chassis to coach builders for special for one-off, customized automobiles. That same year, a 6 light limousine, the B15 was offered.
The model range was further expanded in 1951 with the iconic B20 Coupe, recognized as the GT car of its time, or Gran Turismo, with its generous room and good road manners). More than 3,000 B20 coupes were made. The coupes were revised extensively over their seven year production run, with practically a new version each year, now considered as series one to six. . In 1954, both a new sedan, the B12, and an open two seater B24 Spider were introduced. The Spider was in production in 1955, and replaced a year later with the more practical B24 Convertible. The last Aurelia was made in 1958.
The breakdown is as follows:
- total produced: approximately 18,200
